about

There is music that creates a world of its own; That enthralls and takes you on a journey.
With the 12 works on her debut album STARS AT EYE-HEIGHT, Tabeah throws open an unpretentiously intimate and rich chapter of her music and voice. Recorded with an ensemble of 12, including her band, a string trio and a brass trio, this album is driven by a longing for inner aliveness and a playful urge toward wildness and freedom. Almost pop, not quite post-rock, but with classical string arrangements and soundtrack-ripe melodies, this work could be considered world music.
Spherical and orchestral guitar with string sounds moved by a strong rhythm section and soaring vocals conjure an arc of suspense lifting into new territories.

The huge lion in Poetic Machine is fed up with the pettiness of this disfunctional world so he flies off to bigger horizons. In Just For Now Tabeah sings of her urge to wildly romp around the forest instead of being driven by achievements, bursting past learned patterns to discover something more essential. Ancient Longing plays out in the desert and moves to the core longing of her soul. Paper Piano humorously turns the world upside down to see it from a different perspective.
Fantastical, provocative and deeply soulful, the unique intimacy of this music opens and transports the listener.

The singer and composer Tabea Mangelsdorf (Tabeah) has travelled and lived in many places including USA, Brazil, Israel-Palestine and India with a sense of adventure and interest in its people. The stories and experiences of these journeys flow into the songs of her music with a poetic and strong call for awareness and change.
